He Is Moving On…

11 03 2010

A few weeks ago, when I took a look at the online photo album that Jay’s teacher Ms. Yun maintains, I noticed this phenomenon whenever it came to reading time…

1

Unlike some of his other friends, Jay seldom sits during story time…

Then I noticed these photos, taken just 2 days ago!

3

He’s not the one standing up now! Yay!

4

Did you see that little girl who was standing in the first photo? She is making a quick getaway!

5

And the reason why he is so enraptured by the story?

Cos it is an animal book. And he absolutely adores animals!

In fact, Little Big is organizing an excursion … to the Zoo tomorrow! How exciting! I would have loved to go with him, but my ISO audit beckons, so I will be getting my domestic helper to keep an eye on him (the school asked for the younger ones, that an adult accompany them…)

Thinking of the ‘Right’ Preschool

12 07 2009

Jayvon is now 18 months.

Yes. 18 months.

Wasn’t I just pregnant? Waddling around in my yoga pants, and being able to eat without fear of repercussion?

And I tell you, I can remember lying there in the delivery ward and watched as my prince opened his small eyes and starting his thumb-sucking, when he was barely 5 minutes into the world…

Has it been 18 months already?

And now it is time to think of where to put my baby. I mean, toddler. Nah… He will always be my baby. (Of course, Jay, if you read this and you’re like a 20-year old handsome strapping lad… Yah. U heard me. Baby. Hahaha!)

I have looked at two options.

Little Big

and

MindChamps

and after mulling over it for a good week, I am still undecided.

There is the matter of curriculum, which I feel MindChamps has the upper hand. Then comes the value system of the school, which I agree with MindChamps, but also Little Big. Cost-wise, MindChamps is also a good 50% more expensive than Little Big (gulp-gulp-and-triple-gulp!). Facilities-wise, I fancy MindChamps’ large rooms and spacious quarters.

So that’s three ticks to MindChamps and two ticks to Little Big.

But the prohibitive cost definitely calls us to pull the stops on going right ahead, and needing to really plan our budget. After all, it is a four-year investment, totalling to quite a big sum!

God, please give us the wisdom!

Baby School For Jay

29 03 2009

I was toying with the idea of sending Jay for some enrichment classes, and I made enquiries at a few centres.

It started with Thomas G’s birthday party at Gymboree. Jay had soooooooooo much fun, we thought he would enjoy going for a regular enrichment class. I made enquiries with JWT Gym and My Gym, both conveniently located a mere 5-minute walk from my house. But I’ve just not felt “motivated” enough to actually plonk down money for a full term. Erm. Make that not motivated to even go for a trial lesson. I guess at the end, my sense of practicality (I know! Will wonders never cease! Turns out I AM practical, ya know!?! Ho-ho-ho!) ruled out, and I could hardly bear to literally PAY for PLAY.

After reading Ed’s post, I felt so inspired and decided to go ahead to register Jayvon with Julia Gabriel! And so, I am glad to say that Jayvon will be joining the Bilingual PlayClub come June, when he turns 18 months! I am looking forward to some quality time with him! The PlayClub is a once-a-week two-hours-each-time affair, and I’ve made a booking for every Sunday 2 p.m.
